The Bunkers settled on Sonoma Mountain in 1981. Soon after, Ray Bartolomei, a third generation grape grower from Mendocino County, suggested that Chardonnay would grow very well here. Not only has he been an excellent mentor, but our Zinfandel comes from his 100-year old Mendocino vineyards.

Although the vineyard was originally planted in 1983, the Bunkers did not enter the wine business until 2002. At that time, we approached Mrs. Geraldine Bunker, Mr. Bunker's mother, for label suggestions as she was an artist. She admired the geese that flew over and landed to feed on the second crop leftovers, so she created the label's logo as well as the name of the wine business.
