Black Goose also produces a premium Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Both come from distinct vineyards with unique growing conditions that make Napa Valley famous for its reds. The 2004 Cabernet comes from the Spring Mountain area to the west of St. Helena, home to vineyards of great distinction, many established in the 1800’s. This small lot (300 cases) of classic Cabernet possesses bright plum flavors which are aged in French oak to produce a rich, complex wine.
The 2003 Merlot comes from the southern Napa Valley. This small lot (400 cases), originally purchased for blending, deserved to stand alone. Concentrated, with bright strawberry flavors and marvelously rich, it reflects the best qualities of the 2003 vintage and the Carneros region.
Our 2004 Zinfandel originates in century-old vineyards planted in the heart of Mendocino County. Nestled against the hills, these old, head-pruned vines produce less than two tons per acre, giving the wine its rich, fruity quality with raspberry and cherry-like flavors and smooth aftertaste. It is aged 22 months in French oak. This Zinfandel complements the Black Goose lines of single vineyard designates.Black Goose continually searches for small lots of exceptional wine that properly reflect the unique characteristics of California’s premium vineyards. These are all fruit-forward wines, not oak “bombs.” We think these vineyards are of exceptional quality. Anyone can make an overly-oaked wine, but it takes a great vineyard to produce the fruit flavors found in these premium wines.
